Kevin Amato – Fuck The Golden Years
In a post-VICE era it’s hard to surprise, disgust or even people. Everyone has seen the fuck-ups, the addicts, the pussy the dicks. However, Kevin Amato manages to bring the raw to display, wrapping its dirty in innocence.
Amato has worked for nearly a decade as a photographer and is best known for his frequent contributions to international fashion and lifestyle magazines like Dazed & Confused, Interview and Flaunt. Fuck the Golden Years, which features more than forty framed works, is the first opportunity to see a large selection of finished prints by the artist. The full exhibition includes cornerstone images from Kevin’s commercial portfolio, as well as a broad selection of unseen portraits, landscapes and still life work from Amato’s personal catalog.
Kevin’s work is strongly associated with hip-hop and fashion, and his personal work touches on these themes as well. His images blur the lines between art, fashion, celebrity and lifestyle. Fuck the Golden Years is a visual account of his loves and hates.
A Long Island native, Amato was born in Massapequa, New York and currently resides in the Bronx. He is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and his work has been widely published in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
