“What to Do with a Drunken Sailor” back on at Forever & Today
Hello Grateful Grapefruits! Let’s usher in the new year with an exciting announcement that my friend and artist Jack Early’s “What to Do with a Drunken Sailor?” is getting an extended run at Forever & Today gallery in NYC! This is Early’s first foray into pocket sized art with his own performance of “It Don’t Rain in Beverly Hills”, a song written by him. The video is only four minutes long but is shot by a professional film crew.
The gallery itself is something to see. Forever & Today is a 100 square foot space on Division St. in the middle of Chinatown. It may very well be the smallest art gallery in New York. I walked right passed it at first when I went to see the piece. If you don’t know who Jack Early is, do your homework. He’s making his comeback to the art world after a falling out back in the 80’s with his ex-partner Rob Pruitt. (Get some history here.) He’s most certainly coming back with a bang.
The song was originally performed by the incredible duo and friends of Jack, Dean & Britta (Dean Wareham from Galaxie 500 and Britta Phillips the voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms!) from their album “13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol Screen Tests”. A beautiful song indeed. Unfortunately I don’t think you can find a copy of Jack’s version on YouTube.
