Fur & Gold – Not Your Typical Gay Party
What is Fur & Gold? Well, I’d first start off by saying that it’s an amazing Bat for Lashes Album (2006), but it’s also the name of a party that I started to host back in 2010. I know that doesn’t sound too long ago, but we are rapidly approaching our two year anniversary of our night. Many things have changed since we initially started, having one particular type of sound, to specific visuals, to now, musician and record label sponsorship, free music giveaways, a well defined dance floor, two amazing DJs (Brent Covington & Taffy), and a strong following up the north east coast of the America.
What does this all mean to me as the creator? I initially wanted to start this party night because I was so frustrated with the over sexual, cliché, and bland nightlife scene that plagued most of the nightlife that I’ve ever attended. I wanted to hear the music that I loved and actually dance to it with friends in a public space. I wanted to gather all the other people who loved music, loved new sounds, and enjoyed finding new artists and spread the appreciation to others. Boston’s nightlife is rather dismal, and most of the nights can be filled with the over abundance of drinking and sloppiness, and after awhile, that whole “I think you might be an alcoholic” aura sort of tires you out. So how do we make our night different from any other night? Simple, We love doing what we do, we love to please our audience, get excited over the music we give away, dance with our guests, never charge a cover, and make the night for YOU! We aren’t cocky, we never think we are anything better, and we always thank everyone for their support and dedication. I get excited when the dance floor is packed at the Alley bar, people redefining the space, talking about our videos, screaming at the top of their lungs at the song that’s blaring in the ears, smiles all across the board.
We are trying to keep our night ever changing and growing. We are always improving it here and there, promoting and spreading the word. We are one of the very few nights to see a two-year anniversary here, especially in the gay scene. Many nights have come and gone, escalated in popularity, then fall into the pit of despair. I think our duty to keep your curiosity stimulated, and keeping up with current trends is important. Our slowly but developing team of models, new videos, and website (having album and show reviews, playlists, new artists, promotions, photos), help us spread our word of our night, showing that we are more than a once a month party, but a developed personality. We want everyone to come be it Gay, Straight, Bisexual, Black, White, Hispanic, European, Asian, you name it! Come! If you like the music, like to dance, like cheap drinks, no cover (heck who doesn’t!), then come to F&G!
