Jiang Pengyi is well aware of the monstrous urbanization and expansion of excessive industrialization in China and Beijing particularly. He tries to look into the problem by creating miniature cities, photographing them and investigating them as a rapidly spreading phenomenon.

My photographs of city, still objects and massive skyscrapers reduced to miniature sizes communicate my recurrent themes of excessive urbanization, redevelopment and demolition in the Beijing city.

Born in Yuanjiang, Hunan province in December 1977, Jiang Pengyi graduated from Beijing Institute of Art and Design in 1999. He received the Tierney Fellowship Award from the First Annual Three Shadows Photography Award in 2009 and the Jury Grand Prize from the Societe Generale Chinese Art Awards in 2010. Jiang currently lives and works in Beijing, China.
