Peep Show: Kurt von Bley
You have to pay closer attention on this one. There are hidden meanings in Kurt von Bley‘s art and if you just look at it and walk by, you wouldn’t see the layers of meanings hidden in the corners and the fine stitching of his artwork. You can see his work exhibited in Tape Modern’s Peep Show in Berlin. RSVP to the event here.
Where do you get inspiration from for your art?
Out of everything that is surrounding me: everyday life, people I meet, things that happen, situations that just occur. But very often out of my own life, my past and the present moment.
What do you do in Berlin?
I am living in Berlin for 3 months now. I moved from Collogne to Berlin primarily because of the art scene, but also because that is the only place in this weird country I can imagine to live.
What piece are you showing at Tape Modern this Friday?
I will show one of my installations. Its title is ‘open me and penetrate me’. A very personal and autobiographical work. And it´s supposed to be interactive: The audience is requested to get in contact with it. To follow the instructions.
Why exactly this piece?
I was asked by the curator Chris Winter to show this work. The title of the exhibition is ‘Peep Show’. It deals with different aspects of exhibitionism and voyeurism. And in some way it´s also what my installation is about… I mean it´s both… The person regarding this work is a voyeur and the object of the installation is kind of an exhibitionist. The piece does not cover only the subject of being an observer of a very intimate situation and feeling from the past. It´s also about the media used in this installation, the case of glass, the slide viewer, the light. All of them are used to emphasize the act of putting something on show, making it public, accessible to everyone.
