Little Joe
I came to Berlin to study – at least that’s the official version. My major was, and still is, Media and Communication and my minor back then was Film Studies. I’ve never been closer to boredom suicide than in Film History class. The only thing that could persuade me to continue my Film Studies was the porn seminar we got promised in 1st semester. Well obviously I already had my masters in that, so I decided to throw away my career as movie critic. It was apparently a good choice, because as it looks, there are already very keen and witty queer movie critics. They have a magazine too – It’s called Little Joe.
Little Joe is a magazine about queers and cinema, mostly. It is also a new biannual publication looking at film from a different perspective. It is a direct move away from the traditional method of reviewing all current and future releases towards a more selective and eclectic focus on films that inspire alternative discourse.
It has 80 pages and is 139 x 210mm big.
The first issue is featuring:
Interviews with directors Jack Hazan (A Bigger Splash) and Tom Kalin (Swoon, Savage Grace), a profile of experimental pornographer Fred Halsted by artist William E Jones, essays on films including American Gigolo, Cruising, Song of the Loon, stunning photographs of cult actress Karen Black by filmmaker Cam Archer, and specially commissioned artworks by Stuart Sandford, Yvan Martinez and Joshua Trees.
